WELOME TO MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION PROBLEM SOLVING 101

Hello, my name is LaKindra Ivory.  My major is Workforce Education. My career goal is to teach at a University or Teach back in the Elementary school. I am currently in Mississippi with high hopes of relocating to Texas very soon.  I actually prefer online over face to face. I am the second of three children. We are a very close family. I have a 1 year old who takes up a lot of my time. I love shopping, traveling and having family time. I graduate from Alcorn State University with my BS in Education. This class will consist of learning multiplication and division problem solving strategies. During this course of learning you will be able to do step by step problem solving strategies that will help solve the problem.

Overview

The purpose of this instructional unit is to help the students generate a more positive attitude toward mathematics and improve their abilities in multiplication and division while solving word problems. Students that learn mathematics in many forms tend to be more comfortable learning more and completing their assignments.  Using media programs while learning mathematics teaches the students to be more independent on learning how to use the programs applications to help solve their problems. This instructional unit will provide students the comfort of a self-paced learning program with teacher’s assistance to review multiplication and division in word problems. First, this unit will provide the steps necessary to figure out it the student will multiply or use division in the word problem. Next, students will identify the numbers that will be used to solve the equation. They will identify them by underlining them. Then, students will search and underline the words in the equation that they think will help them understand if they will multiply or divide. Last, using the problem in Seesaw, students will use the microphone to record themselves solving the problem. Students will be given several examples using both multiplication and division. With using media programs in teaching students practice makes perfect. The more students play around with the features of the program, the more they learn in the lesson as well as the media program. At the end of this instructional unit, students will have a better attitude toward mathematics and the knowledge needed to make them comfortable with using the SeaSaw program for work as well as know how to solve word problems and determine what strategies they used to solve the equation.
